Purchases

Eligiblity
The Oakmark Funds are available for purchase by residents of the U.S., the U.S. Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, and Guam only.


Minimum Initial Investments
To purchase shares, the following investment minimums apply:

*The Automatic Investment or Payroll Deduction Plan may be terminated at the shareowner's discretion once the account has met the $1,000.

 

You can purchase shares in one of the following ways:

  • Open a new account
  • Add a new Fund under an existing account
  • Add to an existing Fund under an existing account

Your transaction will be processed at the net asset value as of the close of business on the day your request is received.  However, if your request is received after 4:00 p.m. Eastern Time or when the Fund is not open for business, your transaction will be processed as of the next day the Fund is open.  The Oakmark Funds have the same trading hours and holiday schedule as the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE).  The Oakmark Units (money market fund) have the same trading hours and holiday schedule as the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association (SIFMA) which may differ from those of the NYSE.

Opening a new account:

  • Online You must provide bank information, including your bank login information, at the time of account opening and your bank information will be added to the account. To find out how to open a new account with Oakmark, please view our step-by-step guide in Open an Account.  After opening your Oakmark account, you can make subsequent purchases online.
  • By Mail Please send us a completed New Account Form along with your investment check made payable to the Oakmark Funds.

PLEASE NOTE: The Funds do not accept cash, travelers checks, credit card convenience checks, starter checks, checks made payable to a party other than the Oakmark Funds, checks drawn on banks outside of the U.S. or purchase orders specifying a particular purchase date or price per share.

Adding a new Fund under an existing account:

  • Online Oakmark shareholders who have established bank instructions can add a new Fund via ACH electronic transfer by logging into Online Account Access and clicking Add Money to an Existing Account under the Buy/Sell tab on the main navigation ribbon. If you wish to add bank information, select Purchase via New Bank as your payment method. If the Oakmark and bank account owners’ names do not match, please complete and mail the Shareholder Services Form accompanied by a Medallion Signature Guarantee.
  • By Phone If you have established bank instructions, you can add a new Fund via ACH by calling 1-800-OAKMARK (625-6275) to speak with an Investor Service Representative.
  • By Mail Please send us a completed Add-A-Fund Form along with your investment check.

Buying additional Fund shares under an existing account:

  • Online – If you have established bank instructions, you may make purchases via ACH by logging into Online Account Access. To make a purchase from new bank information or bank information that is not on file, please select Purchase via New Bank as your payment method. If the Oakmark and bank account owners’ names do not match, please complete and mail the Shareholder Services Form accompanied by a Medallion Signature Guarantee.
  • By Phone Call 1-800-OAKMARK (625-6275) for the speech recognition system or to speak with an Investor Service Representative. You must have previously established bank instructions.
  • By Mail Complete the investment slip attached at the bottom of your statements and mail it, along with your check, to the Oakmark Funds, P.O. Box 219558, Kansas City, MO 64121-9558. For retirement accounts, please indicate on the remittance slip the type of contribution you're making and the contribution year. If you do not have a slip, include a letter of instruction containing your purchase amount, Fund names, account number, and account registration with your investment check.

PLEASE NOTE: The Funds do not accept cash, travelers checks, credit card convenience checks, starter checks, checks made payable to a party other than the Oakmark Funds, checks drawn on banks outside of the U.S. or purchase orders specifying a particular purchase date or price per share.

  • By Wire Instruct your bank to transfer funds to State Street Bank & Trust Company, ABA#011000028, DDA# 9904-632-8. Specify the Fund name, account number, and account registration in the instructions.
     
  • By Systematic Agreement Make systematic purchases on a regular basis through an Automatic Investment Plan or Payroll Deduction. To add a systematic agreement, select Add/Edit Automatic Transactions from the Buy/Sell tab on the main navigation ribbon. Options to add systematic agreements are also listed under Transaction Services on the Account Profile tab on the main navigation ribbon. You many also complete and mail the Shareholder Services Form or Payroll Deduction Form.

Redemptions

Please note that the Oakmark International Small Cap Fund imposes a 2% redemption fee on shares redeemed within 90 days of purchase.

Your transaction will be processed at the net asset value as of the close of business on the day your request is received.  However, if your request is received after 4:00 p.m. Eastern Time or when the Fund is not open for business, your transaction will be processed as of the next day the Fund is open.  The Oakmark Funds have the same trading hours and holiday schedule as the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE).  The Oakmark Units (money market fund) have the same trading hours and holiday schedule as the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association (SIFMA) which may differ from those of the NYSE.


Requesting Redemptions:

  • Online – You may make online redemptions via check to your address of record or via ACH to your bank instructions on file by logging into Online Account Access. You may not redeem shares online via check if you have changed your address within the preceding 30 days. To bypass the 30-day hold, you must complete the request by mail using one of the forms below and a Medallion Signature Guarantee is required.  To add bank information to your account, please use our Shareholder Services Form.  A Medallion Signature Guarantee may be required.
  • By Phone Call 1-800-OAKMARK (625-6275) for the speech recognition system or to speak with an Investor Service Representative.  Redemption proceeds will be sent via check to your address of record.  You may not redeem by telephone shares held in an account for which you have changed the address within the preceding 30 days.  You must complete the request by mail using one of the forms below and a Medallion Signature Guarantee is required.  If you have bank information on your account, you can receive proceeds via wire or ACH.
     
  • By Mail For regular, taxable accounts, complete and mail the Redemption Request Form.  For IRA accounts, send the IRA Distribution Form.  Mail the request to:

We require a Medallion Signature Guarantee if the redemption proceeds are to be sent to the address on file that has changed within the last 30 days, made payable or mailed to someone other than the account owner(s), or sent to a bank account that is not on file.

  • By Systematic Withdrawal Set up a plan to systematically redeem a fixed amount by completing the Shareholder Services Form or IRA Distribution Form. You may also set up a systematic withdrawal online by clicking Add/Edit Automatic Transactions on the Buy/Sell tab on the main navigation ribbon. If you are age 70 1/2 or older and want to set up ongoing required minimum distributions, please complete the IRA Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) Form. Receiving Redemption Proceeds:

For check and ACH purchases, redemption proceeds will be withheld for up to 10 days after the date of purchase.  After 10 days, the following timeframes apply:

  • By Check via Regular or Overnight Mail For regular mail, proceeds should be received within 5-10 business days at no charge.  For overnight mail, proceeds should be received within 2-3 business days and there is a fee of $25.70 that will be deducted from your account or from the redemption proceeds if you redeem your entire account.
     
  • By ACH You must have bank information on file.  Proceeds should be received within 2-3 business days.  There is no fee for this service.
     
  • By Wire You must have bank information on file.  Proceeds should be received within 1-2 business days.  There is a $5 wire fee for this service, which will be deducted from your account or from the redemption proceeds if you redeem your entire account.  Please note that your bank may also charge an incoming wire fee.

Exchanges

An exchange transaction is a redemption of shares in one Fund and a simultaneous purchase of shares in another Fund that, for tax purposes, may result in a capital gain or loss. An exchange may result in a 2% redemption fee imposed on shares redeemed within 90 days of purchase of the Oakmark International Small Cap Fund.

Moving money within Oakmark:

  • Online – To make exchanges between Funds, log into Online Account Access and click Move Money within Oakmark under the Buy/Sell tab of the main navigation ribbon.
     
  • By Phone – Call 1-800-OAKMARK (625-6275) for the speech recognition system or to speak with an Investor Service Representative.
     
  • By Mail – Complete the Redemption Request Form. You may request your redemption proceeds be exchanged to another Oakmark Fund.
     
  • Share Class Exchange – If you wish to exchange shares to another share class of the same Fund and your investment meets the minimum requirement, please contact 1-800-OAKMARK (625-6275) or submit your request in writing, as this function cannot be performed online. Class-to-class exchanges are generally not taxable nor subject to the 2% redemption fee for the Oakmark International Small Cap Fund.
